Martin Peters, the former Captain of England and scorer of ‘the other goal’ in England‘s 1966 4:2 victory over West Germany, was in Spain for a flying visit recently. As spokesperson for the travel company Extra Time Online, Martin Peters, MBE, had flown in to visit the La Torre Resort, hit a few golf balls and perform in front of the cameras for a promotional video.
Peters has his own ties with Spain as he’s owned his own place on Menorca for almost five years although, by his own admission, he does not visit as much as he’d like too, due to commitments at Spurs during the football season.
Peters may not be known to many football fans under the age of 40 but It was as an attacking, creative midfielder that Peters truly made his mark on the English game. Excellent with either foot, he also scored many goals with his head and, as England manager Alf Ramsey famously once said in 1966, he was '”0 years ahead of his time'” . He came through the football ranks, joining the West Ham United academy as a fifteen year old. At 22 he enjoyed his first taste of success as West Ham lifted the Fairs’ Cup (now the UEFA Cup) while the following year is football folklore as he was not just part of the England World Cup winning team but also scored in the 78th minute. “I really thought I’d scored the winner, as did the rest of team, only for West German to equalise in the dying seconds and push us into Extra Time.”
It was the link with this extra 30-minutes that attracted the directors of Extra Time Online to ask Martin to be their spokesperson. Extra Time Online is an Internet based travel company specialising in luxury holidays at excellent prices. Martin was here to shoot video for their new promotion video as part of a new web campaign.
Martin is now one of ten former legends of White Hart Lane who host their own executive lounge for every Tottenham Hotspur home game along with former stars Pat Jennings, Steve Perryman and others. He hopes to be back on the Costa Blanca during the summer for more projects with Extra Time Online and also work on bringing down his golfing handicap on some of our top golf courses. Newer articles
